India 1977. Director Satyajit Ray.
Directed by Satyajit Ray, the greatest Indian director.
This historical account was a departure from his contemporary social realist stories which won him awards and fame.
In this story we are in the 1830s when the British were in the process of taking over India from its regional rulers, which led to the Indian Mutiny.
Ray satirises both Indian royalty and the British Raj. Richard Attenborough is brilliant as the ruthless general.
This film was the members’ top choice and deserves to open the new season.
115 minutes.
