Jacques Audiard does not make films for faint hearted intellectuals. He made A Prophet which says it all. His works are passionate, overwhelming brutal and emotional in their romanticism.
The story comes from a series of short stories by a Canadian writer. Matthias Schoenaerts is a Belgium actor destined for international stardom, who acts a Belgian security guard hoping to reach the top in illegal all in cage boxing. The title refers to the taste in the mouth after taking a hard punch. Marion Cotillard stars as a whale trainer who loses her lower legs in a freak accident and gradually regains her interest in living through love. Cotillard has a powerful role to suit her huge talent.
