UK 2012. Director Ken Loach.
Ken Loach does not do comedy often but here he applies his eye for social realism to a tall tale about a Glasgow group of youths plotting to steal an invaluable cask of whisky but the talented nose of one of them offers a route to redemption.
The style and fun in this works harks back to the Ealing comedies of 60 years ago such as Whisky Galore, but the strong Glaswegian accents and realistic, colourful language roots it firmly in the present.
This is Loach’s most relaxed offering, at an enjoyable length, which delights and surprises.
