Brazil 1958. Director Marcel Camus.
This reworking of the Greek myth of Orpheus in the Underworld, transposed to Rio at Carnival time, is a riot of colour and music.
It won the Best Foreign Film Oscar, and the Palme d’Or at Cannes.
A largely amateur cast is well directed to support the doomed lovers. The superb score adds magic to a stunning visual experience – a true seasonal treat.
